Katia Albanese

Katia Albanese is a public relations and government affairs professional with more than 10 years of experience leading public education campaigns on behalf of the federal government and non-profit organizations. She specializes in implementing targeted outreach campaigns to specialized audiences, including the business, veteran, military and disability communities; developing educational materials and online tools in support of these campaigns; and managing federal interagency and public/private partnership programs.

Currently, Katia leads the Concepts’ team for the America's Heroes at Work project, a U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) public education and anti-stigma campaign that focuses on improving the employment outcomes of returning service members with traumatic brain injury and/or post-traumatic stress disorder. Katia also heads up the Concepts’ team in support of the America’s Heroes at Work Employment Pilot, a project designed to coordinate successful employment experiences for veterans with TBI and/or PTSD, while studying individual experiences. Through the Pilot, the Concepts team is collecting data and will examine, validate and disseminate best practices related to helping employees with TBI and/or PTSD succeed on the job. For both projects, Katia is also responsible for helping DOL manage and facilitate interagency collaboration with key federal partners, including the Departments of Defense, Veterans Affairs, Health and Human Services, and many others.

Katia also manages DOL’s ePolicyWorks Health Care—a coalition-building initiative to promote the critical role health care plays in increasing employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Launched at the onset of the federal government’s transition to a new Administration, ePolicyWorks Health Care is a key resource to help agencies and national policy makers shape effective health care agendas and to ensure people with disabilities have a strong voice in the national dialogue on health care reform.

In previous years, Katia led the Concepts team in support of DOL’s Compliance Assistance Initiative and was instrumental in the development and promotion of many of DOL's compliance tools including the elaws Advisors and the Department’s Employment Law Guide. In recognition of her service to DOL, she received Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao’s Compliance Assistance Award of Excellence.

Katia has also provided communications support to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). On behalf of the EPA Office of Research and Development’s National Center for Environmental Research, she helped promote the annual P3 (“People, Prosperity and the Planet”) Award Program and the National Sustainable Design Expo through media outreach and the development of a P3 video program.

Prior to joining Concepts, Katia was the vice president of marketing and business development for CMSCO Associates, a Washington, D.C. government affairs consulting firm. She also provided consulting services to American Defense International, a Washington, D.C. lobbying firm, on issues focusing on defense and technology. Katia graduated from American University with a B.S. in business administration with a concentration in finance.
